Family pay tribute to model found stabbed at her home
The family and friends of a teenage model stabbed to death after moving into her first flat paid
tribute to her yesterday.
Amy Leigh Barnes, 19, died in hospital hours after being discovered with knife wounds at her home in
Farnworth, Bolton, on Saturday.
A 21-year-old man was arrested 100 miles away in the West Midlands and taken to Manchester where he
was being questioned by detectives last night.
Amy's family paid tribute to their "beautiful princess", saying in a statement: "We, as a family,
are absolutely distraught and destroyed more than words can say. We loved our baby so much, she was
our reason for living. She was the most beautiful princess. We will not rest until justice has been
done for our gorgeous daughter. Amy was a very special person and much loved by all her family and
friends, of which she had many."
Amy had taken part in photoshoots for Playboy and Cosmopolitan magazines. She was a finalist in the
Miss British Isles modelling competition in 2007 and in last year's Model of the Year competition.
She had left Lord's school in Bolton to study performing arts at Pendleton college, Salford and
taught drama to young people at the Phoenix charity in Bolton. Until recently she lived with her
mother, Karyn, an artist, and her stepfather, John, in Egerton, near Bolton.
In an interview with her local newspaper she said: "I want to stick with modelling now. I've been
getting more work and my parents are behind me all the way."
She had recently been taken onto the books of the Nemesis casting and model agency. On the Purestorm
online modelling and photography forum, she was described as a semi-professional model who had done
"lots of promotions for celebrity clubs in Manchester, work for Hollyoaks, dancing, acting,
modelling, promotions".
She had also dated Blackburn Rovers striker Benni McCarthy. One friend said: "Amy Leigh was the life
and soul of the party. She was very popular and loved going out night after night. She knew loads of
footballers and went on dates with them."
Some 400 people joined a Facebook group paying tribute to her the 19-year-old. A post from the
former Hollyoaks actor Hannah Tointon read: "RIP x".
Footballers also left comments, including Oldham Athletic player Paul Black and West Bromwich Albion
striker Ishmael Miller. Another friend wrote: "She was a bubbly gorgeous girl with her whole life
ahead of her. She ... made a room light up with her smile."

I never knew you Amy or your family however i am from Bolton and lived in Egerton i'm now in the Navy and i live in Peterborough, the tragic news of your death made national news and i was devastated to find out that another young life has been taken by a blade especially in my hometown. my thoughts are with you, your family and friends.
I hope you are safe and can rest in piece away from this cruel nasty world.

Having lost my 17 year old son in August, I can understand some of the pain Amy's family are feeling. My thoughts are with you, I know no words can help just now, but take strength in the fact that people care and are thinking about you. Just take one day at a time and get through it the best you can.It will get easier little by little.

it goes without saying amyleigh was a popular girl who was loved by everyone who knew her!!she was just as beautiful on the inside as she was out. such a kind soul! it is so tragic what has happened,sending my sincerest condolences and sympathy to amyleighs family at this tragic time.
