Family pay tribute to model found stabbed at her home
The family and friends of a teenage model stabbed to death after moving into her first flat paid
tribute to her yesterday.
Amy Leigh Barnes, 19, died in hospital hours after being discovered with knife wounds at her home in
Farnworth, Bolton, on Saturday.
A 21-year-old man was arrested 100 miles away in the West Midlands and taken to Manchester where he
was being questioned by detectives last night.
Amy's family paid tribute to their "beautiful princess", saying in a statement: "We, as a family,
are absolutely distraught and destroyed more than words can say. We loved our baby so much, she was
our reason for living. She was the most beautiful princess. We will not rest until justice has been
done for our gorgeous daughter. Amy was a very special person and much loved by all her family and
friends, of which she had many."
Amy had taken part in photoshoots for Playboy and Cosmopolitan magazines. She was a finalist in the
Miss British Isles modelling competition in 2007 and in last year's Model of the Year competition.
She had left Lord's school in Bolton to study performing arts at Pendleton college, Salford and
taught drama to young people at the Phoenix charity in Bolton. Until recently she lived with her
mother, Karyn, an artist, and her stepfather, John, in Egerton, near Bolton.
In an interview with her local newspaper she said: "I want to stick with modelling now. I've been
getting more work and my parents are behind me all the way."
She had recently been taken onto the books of the Nemesis casting and model agency. On the Purestorm
online modelling and photography forum, she was described as a semi-professional model who had done
"lots of promotions for celebrity clubs in Manchester, work for Hollyoaks, dancing, acting,
modelling, promotions".
She had also dated Blackburn Rovers striker Benni McCarthy. One friend said: "Amy Leigh was the life
and soul of the party. She was very popular and loved going out night after night. She knew loads of
footballers and went on dates with them."
Some 400 people joined a Facebook group paying tribute to her the 19-year-old. A post from the
former Hollyoaks actor Hannah Tointon read: "RIP x".
Footballers also left comments, including Oldham Athletic player Paul Black and West Bromwich Albion
striker Ishmael Miller. Another friend wrote: "She was a bubbly gorgeous girl with her whole life
ahead of her. She ... made a room light up with her smile."

goodnite princess, you didnt deserve what happened to you. sweet, innocent and nieve. as we all our at your precious age. may you rest in peace, away from that monster, and give your familly assurance that you can never be hurt again. to her mum an dad.... no one can ever imadgin the pain you must be suffering, may she watch over you, and help you through your grief, you will carry this pain all your lives, but dont let that monster ruin any moor of you. in my hour off need, your in my thoughts. xx
Life should mean life and that pathetic excuse of a man should get what he deserves. it won't take the pain away for Amy's poor family and friends, but it might make them feel better knowing he is locked away and can't strike again. R.i.p Amy xxx

I never knew Amy but when I read about this on the news it brought tears to my eye's so young and very beautiful why she was with a crazy guy like this well never know My forts goes out to her family and friends shes in a better place now.

I knew the evil monster that caused this beautiful girls life, I knew him as he was growing up and as a child he was evil, nasty and malicious, he caused my daughter so much upset and pain, luckily my daughter got away, to take such a beautiful girls lifein such a evil way, I hope that the family can remember her without him in her life and remember what a beautiful girl she was. Please let there be justice and for life to mean life and he never ever gets out of prison. God bless you.xxxx

It saddens me to think a good-looking white girl has been murdered by this savage. why on earth was she in a relationship with some-one like that. The savage who committed this barbaric act will answer to God.
